Morgue & Autopsy Laboratories - San Jose, California

Santa Clara Valley Medical Center is a 524-bed public hospital owned and operated by the County of Santa Clara. The hospital is recognized for providing a range of sophisticated specialty services. PM Greene Engineers has provided continuous service to SCVMC since 1965.

PM Greene Engineers designed the mechanical and piping systems for the new 12,400 sq.ft. morgue, autopsy, and clinical laboratories. Extensive field inspection and documentation of existing conditions was required to verify operation of the existing systems, to evaluate new demands and to determine the necessary corrections to meet current code and OSHPD requirements. Installed State Fire Marshall approved fire-stopping assembly.

• Dedicated under floor exhaust system for the negatively pressurized autopsy table to exhaust fumes and odors.
• Piped utilities consist of: oxygen, nitrogen, and vacuum.
• Systems include domestic cold water, domestic hot water supply and return, natural gas, sanitary sewer, acid resistant waste and automatic fire protection systems; A/C condensate drainage for the body storage room.
• Systems were designed in compliance with OSHPD requirements, ADA, NFPA 99 (medical gases) and NFPA 13 (fire protection).
• Design was in compliance with additional OSHPD-mandated seismic strengthening requirements.
