Healthcare
Greene’s healthcare work focuses on the demanding environment of hospitals, including medical research facilities, clinics and medical office buildings. Healthcare projects have been a core part of Greene’s work from its founding, and include surgery suites, isolation rooms, dialysis units and other specialty services. A particular expertise is the design of large central plant systems. In addition, Greene is experienced with the unique requirements of the OSHPD approval process in California.
FEATURED PROJECT: O’Connor Hospital Ambulatory Surgery Unit
O'Connor Hospital was established in 1889 as the first hospital in Santa Clara County. It has been in its current location since 1953. It’s a non-profit hospital that focuses on offering care to the poor and underserved population of Silicon Valley. It has 358 licensed beds and a medical staff of 450. Greene Engineers has worked with O’Connor Hospital to update their facilities to allow them to continue to offer their patients the best care possible.
Greene Engineers remodeled O’Connor’s 5,000 sq.ft. ASU, including the patient rooms and nursing station, to enable the facility to meet OSHPD’s current code requirements. The initial phase of the project included a feasibility study and schematic design to determine the full scope of work and to establish budgetary pricing criteria.
Bullet Upgraded all existing mechanical (HVAC and plumbing) and electrical systems and controls to enable them to be fully functional, more efficient and OSHPD compliant
Bullet Reused existing equipment whenever possible for cost savings
Bullet Provided services for Schematic Design, Feasibility Study, Design Development, Construction Documents and Construction Administration
Bullet Prepared OSHPD Construction Documents for final approval
FEATURED PROJECT: Washington Hospital Healthcare System - Nakamura Clinic
Washington Hospital Healthcare System serves approximately 124 square miles of Southern Alameda County and offers comprehensive healthcare services including 24-hour emergency care.
Greene Engineers designed Washington Hospital’s newest primary and urgent care center, The Nakamura Clinic. It’s a new 9,000 sq.ft. medical office building comprised of a 6,000 sq.ft. Clinic and a 3,000 sq.ft. pie-shaped Conference Center. The clinic houses nine exam rooms, one out-patient surgery room, a radiology section, a laboratory suite, a triage room, a “family friendly” waiting area. The adjacent conference center is used for Washington Hospital’s popular Health & Wellness classes as well as to support the Community Emergency Response Team, which aids the City in case of disaster.
Bullet HVAC design for medical office consists of five packaged gas/electric rooftop units to provide cooling, heating and ventilating for five different zones of the building; an energy management system was included to control units scheduling, occupied/unoccupied mode, start-up and shut down modes, night setback, discharge air set point adjustment and alarm shutdow.
Bullet Designed a new 600 Amp, 480/277V service from PG&E, site lighting, and power and lighting to exam rooms, offices and conference center.
Bullet Domestic hot water supply was designed with a hot water return circulation system controlled by an aquastat to insure constant hot water temperature to all fixtures.
